Why Chan Meditation?

Indeed, there are many different meditative techniques available to the general public; so why Chan Meditation in particular?

For one, Chan meditation is the orthodox Chinese practice that originated from HuangDi NeiJing (Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon) 5,000 years ago. It teaches the concept and importance of the Three Treasures for optimal health and hapiness. Our achievement and subsequent maintenance of optimal health and happiness is dependent on a balanced abundance of Chi (energy), the Shen (awareness) and the Jing (essence), and Chan Meditation is the only technique which cultivates both the Chi and the Shen at the same time.

The Canon stated very clearly, "The level of Shen (awareness) is dependent on the level of the Chi (energy). On the other hand, a higher level of awareness will help to monitor and cultivate the Chi. They are inter- related." We need to have Chi to be healthy. We need a high level of Shen (awareness) to sense and manage our state of Well being. Shen (awareness) helps us to recognize our inner temptations and moderate our habits so that our inner self functions harmoniously and is thus always in sync with the universe. In sync with our universe is what healthy living is ultimately about. These are the reasons why Shen and Chi-base Chan Meditation is so effective when it comes to self-healing and enhancing our immune system.

Insomnia, gout, high blood pressure, anxiety, depression and many other ailments or immune system dysfunctions may be improved significantly or even cured through a dedicated practice of Chan meditation.

These are also the main reasons for Chan Meditation to set itself apart from all other meditation practices that teach sitting quietly but without Chi and Shen cultivation. Meditation without cultivating our Chi and Shen would only quiet our mind during the sitting. After we get up from the cushion and get back into the real world, we become trapped by our habits again.

The only way to continually rejuvenate ourselves is to practice Chan Meditation because it cultivates the Chi in our bodies and enhances the Shen in order for us to liberate ourselves from our habits and impulses. Healthy Chi and Shen are two of the major components for healthy living. One does the monitoring and the other refines the energy.

According to HuangDi NeiJing, our well being is affected by numerous invisible forces of the universe in which we live. Since the universe itself is in overall balance and harmony, in order for us to be completely healthy we must also live in harmony with the prevailing conditions of the universe, and to make appropriate adjustments as they change.

In order to live harmoniously with the universe, we must first be in harmony within ourselves. How do we know that we are in harmony within ourselves and ultimately with the universe?

The key lies in our improved Shen (awareness) through the practice of Chan Meditation.

It is only through Chan Meditation that we may cultivate both our Chi as well as our awareness to monitor and manage the physical conditions within us and the invisible phenomena that are external to our bodies.

Most of us know what it takes to be healthy and happy. Some may have difficulties making them happen because we cannot honestly manage ourselves. We surrender too easily to temptations, inner desires and impulses.

Chan meditation is the most effective practice to free us to be our own master instead of being enslaved by our mind or impulses.

Physical, Mental and Spiritual Benefits

Chan Meditation is not associated with any religion or faith. It was developed 2,000 years before the birth of Buddhism and Christianity and continues to be dedicated solely to improving our health, deeply relaxing our body and mind, and improving our awareness, intuition and inspirations.

If you are religious, you are most welcome to join us as well because we have a good cross-section of all major religions represented by our practitioners. In fact many have indicated that Chan Meditation has deepened their faith in their own particular religion.

Thousands of years ago Chan Meditation was taught without words or formalities. It was purely and simply a practice to benefit our health and to elevate our awareness and hapiness. The only thing that mattered, which is also the case today, is the practice itself, i.e., we sit down, keep quiet, stop thinking, stay within our chi and elevate our awareness - that's it. It is really not complicated. All you have to do is to practice it with your heart and devotion.

So, register and give Chan Meditation a try in order for you to experience and witness the benefits for yourself. Not for anyone else but for the love of your own well being.
